Hear what my previous and current players have to say about the program
I started with Matt in 2021 as a freshman in high school struggling to stay healthy on the mound with a nagging elbow injury. From day one, Matt knew exactly what I needed and got right to work helping me not only to stay healthy but continue to progress with hundreds of high level in-depth drills and exercises. What started as just trying to stay healthy grew into trying to be the best and play at the next level. Matt was with me every step of the way. When I started as a freshman I was throwing 78 mph with inconsistent command. During my junior year season, I was throwing 91 mph with a 0.81 ERA and pitched my team to a state championship game. I recently committed to play at a division 1 college and can’t begin to express how thankful I am for the support Matt had and continues to have on not just me but all of his athletes. He is the best of the best and it shows.
I am a freshman at New York University (NYU) where I am studying Real Estate Finance and playing baseball. I believe and know that Matt prepared me to not only receive an offer to play at the collegiate level, but to excel there. I’ve been working with Matt for the past 2-3 years; the experiences I’ve had with him are second to none. I understand my mechanics at a deeper level than I ever thought I would; through Matt’s training, I’ve not only become a better athlete, but I’ve become a student of the art of pitching.
When I started working with Matt I was a Junior in HS and quickly I gained velocity and control of my pitches while also expanding my pitch repertoire. I remember originally being screened for what was wrong in my mechanics and also where I had faults in my mobility or strength and Matt and I worked towards fixing those things over our course of working. Matt knows what it takes to get every individual to their best possible place, and is very knowledgeable about pitching mechanics as well as exercises and their benefits. All in all Matt helped me become a better all around pitcher and has helped me reach my goals of playing at a D1 school and has put me in a good spot to compete.
I am a sophomore rhp at the University of South Carolina. I started working with Matt my freshman year of high school and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Matt not only does great mechanical breakdowns but also helps fine tune your body to make you the best pitcher you can be. Freshman year I had super tight hips and a weak shoulder. If I had continued on this path I would have gotten injured very fast. Matt saw this and gave me correctives to fix these problems within our first lesson together. That is only one of the many ways Matt has helped me over the years. To talk about Matt as a person and coach one word I would describe him as is a hard worker. He was always willing to stay extra time with me and help me understand concepts about pitching that I was not understanding or for extra mobility help. I would not be where I am today without Matt and I’m super happy that freshman year I found Matt.
I was 13 when I first met Matt. As a young athlete he was the first person to introduce me to using bands as warmup. He stressed the importance of proper warmup and taking care of your arm. I remember after that first session going home and asking my dad to buy me a pair of jaeger bands. For a while in my teen years I still thought I could make it as a hitter, but once I realized my strength I moved on to focusing on pitching. I started working with Matt on a consistent basis at 16 years old. The goal was always to play collegiate baseball, I started chasing that dream with him. I always had an interest in the fitness side of the athletic world, but wasn’t always sure how to program the right things in the right way. Working with Matt I learned hundreds of different exercises and movements, that helped me get stronger in every position. Most importantly it helped translate the strength I built to the mound so I could start gaining velocity. On the mechanical side of things he helped me understand what each body part should be doing when you throw in order to protect the arm and throw harder. He dives into the hip movements, the arm paths, etc… I am now in my Junior season as a pitcher at West Chester University and I couldn’t be happier.
I've worked with many different pitching coaches, and Matt is by far the best around! His attention to detail and consistency truly stand out. He puts all his time and energy into his players, never rushing and always being incredibly thorough. His eye for mechanics is second to none, and he ensures every aspect of your pitching is dialed in. Beyond the physical side, Matt also helps you mentally as a pitcher, keeping you focused and confident on the mound. His approach to strength and conditioning is equally impressive, making sure you’re physically prepared to perform at your best, stay strong, and avoid injury.
At the time I started training with Matt, I was in a lot of pain while throwing and was starting my college recruitment process. Within the first few weeks, Matt quickly noticed mechanical inefficiencies within my delivery and was able to analyze them and give me the tools and drills to start bettering my delivery. Over the span of a few months, I was starting to throw pain free, allowing myself to now work at throwing harder and becoming a better pitcher. I had trained with Matt for over 3 years and I have been pain free, I’ve been able to analyze my own mechanics when I am away from training with Matt, and I have become more mature and smart in the ways I throw and train. This is all possible because of the knowledge and instruction Matt has given me over the years and even when Covid was keeping everyone from seeing each other, I was still able to use the valuable information on biomechanics and weightlifting Matt had taught me and continue my training. While still continuing my collegiate journey, Matt has given me the tools to raise my ceiling and my floor as a pitcher and has done a lot to help me through every moment of my recent baseball career.
I started with Matt Alvarez my freshman year in high school hoping to make big gains. But I ended up getting injured during my freshman season. I did rehab and workouts over the fall and winter with Matt and came back bigger, stronger and healthier, throwing high 80’s with no arm pain and then getting the chance to play at the division 1 level. Training with him the past couple years has been a lot of fun with a lot of good memories. Training with him not only helped me become a better baseball player but also a better person off the field. Today I am up to 90 and still using what I’ve learned from his workouts in my personal training. He is a great trainer/person that I can’t thank enough for what he’s done for me.
